Vicki Davis and the Digital Generation

I have just viewed a video on the Edutopia Digital Generation Project website It was about a teacher called  Vicki Davis and in just over 4 minutes explains to me just why Vicki is such a great exponent of the the use of new technology in education. One of the speakers in the video sums it all up when she says that Vicki is a teacher in a school in a rural part of Georgia in the American South and yet she has been able to get her students to communicate with students from around the world. She is one of the driving forces and founders of the “Flat Classroom Project” which is where I first came across her when I was following a Twitter lead about international communication in education using new technology. She is also an award winning blogger with her site Cool Cat Teacher Blog

I would urge you to watch the video since I feel it sums up all that needs to be said about why she is such an inspiring individual, not only to her students, who she says she learns from as much as she teaches but to all those educators across the planet who see her example as leading education in the direction it must eventually take for the sake of all the digital generation kids of this world.

  1. Wow! Thank you for your kind words. If I can be known as anything it would be as an encourager of others. Teaching is tough and few people understand what it is like “in the trenches.” Technology is great when used well and is such a wonderful tool for those of us allowed to use it! I have such a heart for people who are blocked from these tools, however!

Technology is a lot of fun to use, but it also makes learning better when used well. Thank you for your kind words and for sharing the video. I cringe when I see it — somehow seeing myself on film, I guess. Thank you so much for your kind, encouraging words here. Please let me know if I may help you in any way!

  2. Ms. Vicki Davis you are truly a pedagogical technological pioneer, but more importantly you understand the value of a student centered classroom that empower students to engage in the learning process through collaboration and cooperative learning. The fact that you are placing emphasis on global understanding is critical to the growth and development of our students in a knowledge economy. Thank you and keep up the good work.
