Following our recent #edchat discussion on Twitter a number of educators have tried to frame a response to the negative publicity that teachers have received in the past few weeks.
One big idea was to make a documentary that would put forward a riposte to the “Waiting For Superman” hype that has dominated discussion. But a documentary needs time and money and someone with connections to the film industry to get it out into the public arena.
There was also a less costly idea put forward that has already been set up. In these days of instant posting of videos to You Tube the idea was put forward of teachers having a channel on YouTube where they can post short videos putting forward their own stories of what their lives are like every day and how they are making real impact in their student’s lives.
The channel has now been set up and can be found at http://www.youtube.com/EducationStories
If you are a teacher reading this then I hope you will feel the need to support this venture.. but most importantly I am really looking forward to seeing the videos once they get uploaded. I feel that they will give some really interesting stories from the many and varied people who are collectively called “teachers”. It will also give teachers a chance to see the power and potential of making their own videos.
This can really be an exciting venture which I hope to report back on (with videos inserted) in a blog post in the near future.
