In the video that you can see by following the link above, Nichole Pinkard emphasizes the importance of media literacy in education. This is a part of a forthcoming PBS Series that starts (in the U.S.) this Sunday (February 13th) called Digital Media – New Learners Of The 21st Century.
I was very excited in seeing the way that Digital Media is being used in Chicago to really get young people to explore their world. I loved the way that young students have become teachers and mentors to younger ones and were until very recently students themselves. This whole thing seems to have by-passed many schools because these schools have not woken up to embracing the digital world that is the everyday life of these children.
This is about digital learning and creativity and schools may well find themselves excluded from the process of playing a significant part in young people’s futures unless they wake up and change!
