National Geographic online have come out with an excellent graphical “silhouette” about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

I read the lofty words with the backdrop of the recent events in Libya, Egypt, Bahrain in mind as well as the many circumstances of genocide (for example Rwanda) and the existence still, in the 21st century of child exploitation and human slavery

I looked at the way that the lofty statements in the Declaration were highlighted as you ran your mouse over them. I thought that this might make a really good lesson for Civics, Politics, Social Studies students…. to look at the statements and then examine the realities of human rights in our world. I would not teach anything here I would just let them read, examine, discuss, debate, research and then come to their own conclusions.

I would be interested to hear from any teachers who try this with their class.
