The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Paris Street Late 60’s

I uploaded this fascinating little video from the late 60’s. It was obviously a publicity shot of Jimi Hendrix and his band shot in the Ruse Daguerre amongst the shoppers in the marketplace.

I loved it as a piece of social history. The faces of the Parisians looking at the “hippy styled” Hendrix and his band Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, was priceless.

It is worth showing to today’s youth to get their ideas about what Paris looked like in the late sixties as it was about to face the May Student riots of 1968. Yet here was the Rue Daguerre, a lively and bustling market, situated in a relatively untrampled stretch of south Paris in close reach of Montparnasse in the 14th Arrondissement.

For those interested in comparisons… here is a link to the same market today
